When it comes to Summer gatherings for the Daniels, it usually consist of tasty bbq, refreshing cocktails, and tons of laughter. While I always have the meat dishes picked out and ready to go, I am usually quickly throwing together my favorite go-to side dishes to accompany the meat. Well that is until recently, when I decided to stray away from my usual recipes and add a new variety of options for my family and friends to enjoy. I’ve comprised a list of some of my favorite side dishes for you to consider making this Independence Day and for any gathering that you may have during the warm weather. They range from sweet peanut butter pies to savory wedge salad skewers. There are a few delicious salad options in the list too.
1.
I’m kicking off the list with my Easy Watermelon and Feta Salad. This is seriously one of the easiest salads ever and probably one of the most refreshing. Between the refreshing watermelon and the flavor combo of basil and arugula, this dish is perfect to server during a hot Summer’s day.
2.
Peanut Butter lovers will give you major kudos for serving this No Bake Peanut Butter Pie. It only requires 6 ingredients, and one of them is Oreo Cookies…need I say more?
3.
Instead of your guest snacking on potato chips during your holiday gathering, try beet chips. Pink Fortitude has a tried and true recipe for Oven Baked Beet Chips that won’t have your guests leaving with guilt.
4.
WHOOPIE for these 4th of July Cake Mix Whoopie Pies by A Wicked Whisk. They’re pretty simple to make, but that doesn’t mean the taste is simple. These cookie sandwiches are chewy and gooey, with a flavor combo that will make you heart melt.
5.
I know it’s up for debate as to what restaurant has the best slaw. Many believe that KFC takes the number one spot and apparently Bake Me Some Sugar agrees. They played their hand at creating a copy cat version of the infamous slaw with an Easy KFC Coleslaw recipe, so give it a try and see if it replicates properly.
6.
What’s a gathering without a proper adult beverage? Not a fun one, I assure you. This recipe for Red White and Blue Frozen Bomb Pop Cocktails by Wicked Whisk are not only festive, but they are frozen and full of vodka. Perfect for cooling off and relaxing amongst friends.
7.
Bacon lovers rejoice! Not only are these Grilled Wedge Salad Skewers a fun play on a classic salad, but they’re perfect for those who want a low carb option.
8.
I know that this recipe is a Healthier Blackberry Apple Hazelnut Crisp. Honestly, if this dish was a million calories I’d still devour it because it is really that good! Trust me on this one guys.
9.
What’s a gathering without the perfect salad? It’s an incomplete one. Pleasantly please your guest with this semi-hardy Picnic Perfect Kale Quinoa salad with a Cider Vinaigrette.
10.
Step up your fruit dip with a patriotic dessert. This Red White and Blue Fruit Dip by Morgan Manages Mommyhood is sure to be a big hit with the kiddos.
11.
Yes, yes, yes, to all things Mediterranean! I’m a sucker for Greek food, and apparently I’m not alone. If you want a quick salad that is full of flavor, then check out this Greek Chickpea Salad from Peas and Crayons.
12.
I’m ending this list with my Very Berry Trifle.
