I realize that I am not the only one who had to scale down our milestone celebrations during the past year. So, I wanted to give you some of the easy tips that I used to make our celebrations more intimate, yet fabulous at home. First up, I’m giving you 5 ways to Create a Kids Spring Birthday Celebration without Breaking the Bank.
I used my daughter, Harper’s 6th Birthday Celebration as an example to show how I got everything done. I’m just like you, I wanted my daughter to have something special to celebrate her big day, but I honestly was not trying to break the bank while doing it since, it will just be a celebration that includes our little family of 5 as the party guests.
1. Always start with balloons!
Ahh hello, it’s a birthday party, so you must have balloons. In my opinion, the more you have, the better. You can go the route of hiring someone to install a balloon arrangement for you, which is my preferred method. (If you live in the Atlanta area, then you must check out Events on Site, I use them for all of my party balloon and paper flower needs.) Or, you can totally purchase balloon designs and easily install them yourself. When I have time and energy to do my own installations, I have purchased balloons from my fav Amazon or Etsy supplier.
Give them flowers galore!
When it comes to planning any celebration, you always, I repeat ALWAYS want to have fresh flowers present. They add a special element that brings your event to life. Yes, flowers can easily be the most expensive item at any event, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be. Especially if you are having a small celebration at home. I always recommend to my friends, to hit up their local grocer to purchase flowers to make their own arrangements. (Trader Joe’s hands down has the best flower selections universally, but you can also check out your local farmers market). I just have a few tips to keep in mind when making your grocery store flower arrangements.
- Gather plenty of pretty vases in different shapes and sizes.
- Always trim all of the leaves off of each stem. This will give your arrangements a cleaner look. You can leave the two leaves that are usually closest to the top near the actual flower.
- Create multiple floral arrangements that are all different to give a gallery effect.
- Mix inexpensive flowers with expensive flowers to get the most bang for your buck. For example, don’t be afraid to pair a carnation with a rose.
Don’t underestimate grocery store cakes and cupcakes
Look, I know I’m not the only one who doesn’t become the ultimate baker at the drop of dime. Nor, do I want to be that person. So, I save any and all of my baking attempts for days that I have time to fully embrace the whole baking process. In the meantime, I just head to my local grocer to pick up simple cakes and cupcakes so that everyone can fulfill their sweet tooth. Since, we’re celebrating at home and it’s just the five of us, I like to stick to the mini cakes. Here are some of my tips to getting the most out of grocery store cakes and cupcakes:
- Always go with white icing if possible. It makes your desserts look clean and professionally made.
- Garnish them with sprinkles or fresh flowers. You can dress them up without spending a ton of money.
- Mix and match sizes. For instance, I love small cakes, mixed with large and mini cupcakes.
- Display them on cute stands.
- Finish them off with cute candles and signs.
Use unique place settings
Yes, you can use basic white or clear party plates for your celebration, but I highly recommend stepping up your place settings by using a cute or unique design. For instance, I used these adorable Black Swan Princess Party Place Settings by Anna + Pookie which come in more designs for your little girl to enjoy. They will be coming out with boy themed supplies and costumes soon, so be sure to sign up for their newsletter, and follow them on IG.
I love their sets because you can just purchase their boxes to get everything that you need. They come with large and small plates, party hats, napkins, and balloons for 8 people. Because the plates are paper, I like to place them on larger charger plates, to make the final look just a bit more sophisticated.
Accessorizing is the Key to Success
When all major decor is set up and in its place, I always go back and add accessories to complete the look of the party. When I say accessories, I mean things like color coordinated candy, ribbon, candles, etc. In all honesty, I usually have a ton of these random things sitting around the house leftover from only God knows what. But, I’m glad because it’s another way for me to save. If you don’t have extra items laying around your home, you can easily get what you need from Amazon or any of your favorite local stores. Just remember that a little truly goes a long way.
