Recently, I had the pleasure of building my very own Farmhouse Table and Bench for my home. Check out the video above to get all the details on how I came to the conclusion of making my own table and how my experience was with 48 Planks, an artisan wood shop in Loomis, California. Here are photos from the table in its new home. We couldn’t be happier!
This was a memorable DIY project that will benefit my family forever. I made a counter-height 8ft table, with ponderosa pine that was milled 40 years ago. I decided to go with fabric, counter height chairs, along with an 8ft. bench.
I opted for the trestle legs to support the table because I think they’re a bit more stylish than the basic four legs. Also, I thought about my 6’5 husband’s long legs and how he hits them all the time on traditional four leg tables. Now at least he won’t have to worry about that at home.
I chose a medium/dark stain and was given the option to add metal embellishments to the legs. The process was quick and easy–I went in at 9am and was out by 1pm. My table was delivered the very next day!
Overall, this was an amazing experience. I’m glad that I stepped out of my comfort zone and took a chance on making something that I really wanted. I would recommend anyone to do the same. If you aren’t in Northern California, just contact a local wood artisan and see if they wouldn’t mind you building your own table with guidance. Trust me, it will be a decision that you won’t regret!
Special thanks to Yadish of Yadish Ramos Photography for capturing these beautiful photos from my home. Also, thank you to David of 48 Planks for being so informative, welcoming, and kind.
