Easy Instant Pot American Goulash made with hearty tomato beef broth, elbow noodles, few veggies, and seasonings. This delicious one-pot meal would be ready in less than 20 minutes making it the perfect weeknight recipe.
One of my fondest childhood dishes, goulash, is now even better because you can make an Easy Instant Pot American Goulash version in less than 20 minutes. Its tomato-covered elbow noodles, mixed with a few veggies, and lean red meat of your choice makes for a delicious weeknight meal that your family will truly love.
After my goulash Instastory post, I couldn’t stop laughing at how many of you said your parents went overkill on goulash while you were growing up? I totally fall into that category too. But now, as a Mom of two, I can totally see why my Mother chose to cook it all of the time!
Dude, this recipe is crazy easy! And it takes less than 20 minutes to make if you have an instant pot or pressure cooker. In all seriousness, the way my week-life is set up, this sounds like a total winner to me. Can you agree? I’d like to propose that you join me in honoring all of the goulash-making mothers and fathers of the world, and let’s have this recipe on repeat in our home until we’re empty nesters!!!!! Yeah!??
How To Make Instant Pot Goulash
- Set the instant pot to saute mode. Than cook the ground beef, onion, green pepper, and garlic. Cook everything together untill the meat is fully cooked.
- Add in the worcestershire sauce, seasonings, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes and noodles. Cover with the lid, and set the timer to 4 minutes.
- Once fully cooked and ready top each serving with shredded cheese and enjoy!
Frequently asked Goulash Questions
- Do the noodles need to be cooked before adding to the pot? Dude, I told you this was the easiest recipe ever. Therefore, you do not have to cook the noodles first. Just dump and go. (Thank me later xo)
- Isn’t Goulash the same as Hamburger Helper? While people like to make the comparison because it looks the same, it absolutely is NOT the same thing. They taste completely different. Last time I checked, Hamburger Helper didn’t have tomato sauce, nor do I recall any fresh veggies in it.
Storage and Reheating:
Store the instant pot goulash in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days. Reheat it back on the stove until it comes to a simmer.

This recipe tastes great. The problem is that it took way longer than it should have. The Instant Pot kept giving me a food burn error even though I followed the recipe exactly. It would not cook and it turned off twice. Only when I added 2 cups of water to it would it actually cook properly, which makes it more runny than a goulash should be.
