When it comes to this cake, it brings back great memories from when I was a child. My neighbor in Virginia Beach would always make this cake and bring it to us around this time of year.
So I decided to give the recipe a go and thankfully it taste just like the one that my neighbor would bring. However, I decided to add a little bit of a twist to the recipe to include the ingredients that I always wanted to taste when I took a bite.
First I added walnuts to give a little more texture to each bite. Plus, who doesn’t love walnuts and apples? Next, I went with Autumn Glory Apples in lieu of green apples. And lastly, I decided not to include the custard icing in my recipe. It is delicious, but for me it just makes the cake too sweet. I have a recipe for it below if you feel the need to have it.
What does Irish Apple Cake Taste like?
This cake is a bit like a strudel, and it’s really dense. I love eating it with tea or coffee, or as a snack. In a way it taste like the cake version of my Apple Fritter Muffins.
