Everyone loves a good scrub. You know that baby smooth feeling you get after exfoliating. All the dead skin is gone and now the newer skin cells are on the surface again Well, it sometimes costs a fortune and contains ingredients you may not be crazy about.
With the amount of chemicals we apply to our faces daily, from our soap, make up and even the face wash we use, our bodies may as well be toxic spills, so it’s always good to go natural once in awhile. Aside to having minimal ingredients, it’s quick, easy, and what’s more fun than DIY’s? So here are three natural DIY sugar scrub recipes you could use.
1. COFFEE SCRUB **Read updated Coffee Scrub post HERE for more benefits and printable instructions on this awesome scrub!**
We all love coffee. It has such a wide variety of uses from drinking to exfoliation. When combined with raw brown sugar, it is a good source of glycolic acid that helps break down skin cells and also increases new skin cell production.
*Remember to test a portion of your skin before usage and if you have sensitive skin, you can substitute the brown sugar for oatmeal.*
Ingredients
1 Cup Raw Brown Sugar
1 Cup Ground Dark Roasted Coffee Beans
1 Cup Olive Oil
2. SWEET ORANGE AND LAVENDER SCRUB
If you love the smell of lavender, you’ll love the addition of citrus. Orange essential oil adds a beautiful citrus feel to this scrub and reminds you of spring. Lavender is also a natural sedative that can help you relax and unwind. It also happens to have anti-inflammatory, anti depressant and antimicrobial properties. The sea salt is great for dry skin and mixed with lavender just leaves you skin feeling younger than ever. Coconut oil is a miracle oil and I cannot even begin to list all it’s uses. I’ll need to dedicate an entire blog to that.
Ingredients
1 Cup Sea Salt
1 Cup Raw Brown Sugar
½ Cup of Coconut Oil
½ Cup Olive Oil
1tsp Sweet Orange Essential Oil
1/2 Cup Honey
1 tbs Dried Lavender
3. LEMON ROSEMARY SCRUB
I love the scent of rosemary. It has this fresh scent that many people love. Lemon essential oil, essentially lemon extracted to form an oil (no pun intended). Lemon smells fresh too and has an even stronger scent. It’s mildly acidic properties are also good for skin cleansing and keeping off bacteria.
Ingredients
1 Cup Raw Brown Sugar
1 Cup Sea Salt
1tsp Lemon Essential Oil
1 tbs Dried Rosemary
4. NATURAL STRAWBERRY LIP SCRUB *Edible*
Did I say three? I meant four. I saved the best for last. If you have a habit of eating your natural mixtures, you’d love this one because it comes ready to eat use.
Ingredients
1 Cup Raw Brown Sugar
½ Cup of Coconut Oil
1tbs Natural Strawberry Flavoring
The procedure is the same for all of them. Just mix them and store in a jar. Since there’s no addition of water, they keep for a while.
You could use these in the shower or place a jar beside your sink to use after washing your hands. It feels great on the hands and adds moisture after a wash. These are easy to make and are perfect for gifts or favors like upcoming Mother’s Day.
P.S These are so pretty that if you put them in a cute jar and wrap them up, you could use give them as gift to someone you care about.
A few tips to keep in mind are:
- Raw Brown Sugar can be replaced with regular light or dark brown sugar
- Add more or less essential oils according to how strong you would like the scent to be.
That’s all for today. Leave your favorite DIY Natural Scrubs in the comment section. I’d love to hear from you.
